2019-09-06 Hatchery and then Event Site

Ted's new Stubby Free Wave 105
The day started at Dog River as usual.  It started out with Blaine, Brad, and Big Air Jim, and then the others started to arrive.  At about 10:00 we went over to Bette's for breakfast.   The universe is back in alignment!  Sheri, came over to say hi, and we gave her a hard time about being a TV star.  Here is the link!

Kent showed up late for breakfast.  He had been to Sailworks, and is now the proud owner of a new Moses Foil set up, complete with two different front wings.  One for stronger conditions and one for lighter conditions.  He is anxious to try them out!  (Kent's add...  I test rode the foil for two days and could not go back...  Never test ride - unless you are ready to buy!)

From Bette's, I went down to Big Winds to settle up with Eddy for my Board, and to sign the consignment papers for my Kode 94  (which I had left with him when I picked up my new board.  Handre was there looking at a Demo Stubby 85L board which looked like new.  Of course, he bought it!

When I checked my email later, I got the following message from Louise!  Oh Oh!

I believe you told me that when you bought the new board - you would be selling off TWO of your other boards ? ... Your blog only mentions leaving ONE board behind? ? ?
 ðŸ¤”🙄😌😬😳😊       .....  "Full disclosure" .....
Louise

I went to the Event site.  Blaine, Brad, and Big Jim were their rigging their foils, but it looked windy enough to sail at the Hatchery, and the other guys had gone there, so I moved on.

Kent was very anxious to use his new toy (Foil).  He went to the Event site earlier, but no one was there, so he went over to the Hatchery.   When he got there, he realized that in his rush, he had forgotten his Park Pass, so he had to go back to the store to get it.....   Then back to the Hatchery.

Gerry was just heading out on his 5.3 when I got to the Hatchery.  Mike had been there for a while.  Kent was rigging his foil (crazy in this wind), and Al was also rigged and ready to go.

I rigged my 5.6 and new Stubby and headed out.  The wind was steady and strong.  I probably should have been on a smaller sail, but I had a great sail anyway.  The swell was big, but not huge.  I think everyone had a good time.  I sailed 16km and then came in for a break and some lunch.
Gerry - Sailed over 50km!
Everyone was having a lot of fun.  Brad, Blaine and Ross sailed/kited up from the event site and hung around for awhile before heading back.

Ross is working on jumping - which is difficult because he does not use straps on his board, so when he jumps, he has to use the wind to keep the board pushing against his feet.  Amazing....
Ross - getting air - strapless!
I went out for a second session and had a great time again.  I came in around 3:00 as the wind started to drop off.  I sailed more than 30km for the day.

We all packed up and moved over to the Event Site.  Blaine, Brad and Big Air Jim were foiling, while Handre was sailing his new 85L Stubby Board.  Blaine is really starting to get his foiling jibes.  I saw a few where he barely touched down and kept speed throughout the turn.

Kent rigged again and went out on his foil gear to sail.  Jim Mudry and the Sailworks guys showed up, so Kent had to go out again and chase them!
Kent is now a Pro-Foiler!
I decided I had had enough for the day, and set up to take photos from the end of the point.

Big Fin Jim!
The sailing was followed by beers on the beach - then de-rigging.  Andreas showed up and told us about his experience with the closed highway.  Instead of getting to Cranbrook at 9pm he arrived there at 3am.

I ducked out and went back to Big Winds, where I dropped off my Nash 115 for consignment.   I think the Stubby, even though it has less volume than the Nash, planes more easily.  Louise, I hope you are happy!  I now have one board instead of two!

I went back to the Condo to clean up.  Ross, Karen and Andreas were there.  We heard from the group that they had gone to Ferments for supper, we all headed down to join them.  The E-Bike makes it really easy to get around!

Another great day!  Looking forward to more wind tomorrow.

Brad

Handre - on his new Stubby
Blaine - Looking good!

A couple of kids fooling around.  The Kiter would do a sharp turn and the foiler would get out in front, drop the rope and then pump like crazy.  The kiter would then catch up to him, hand him the rope and carry on.  It looked like they were having a lot of fun!
